Douglas Thomas – Commander
Doug served in the US Navy from 1984 – 1989. He was stationed on board the USS SAMUEL B ROBERTS (FFG-58) in 1988 when it struck an Iranian mine. Against all odds, the crew was able to save the ship, despite a 25′ hole in its hull. He joined the Coast Guard in 1990, retiring in 2005. He is currently retired and works part time, enabling him to spend many hours volunteering for the VFW as well as his daughter’s school.
